Dragons have appeared in mythology and folklore across numerous cultures worldwide, often with distinct characteristics and symbolism. For instance, in Chinese mythology, dragons are associated with water, rain, and good fortune, while in European folklore, they are often depicted as fearsome creatures guarding hoards of treasure. However, one lesser-known dragon myth comes from the Mapuche people of South America. They tell stories of a creature called the "Alicanto," a dragon-like bird that feeds on gold and silver. According to legend, the Alicanto's feathers shimmer with the colors of the precious metals it consumes, making it an elusive and coveted creature in the vast deserts of the region.
